The spikes can be hard to clean and you have to bash a clove first if you want to press it skin-on. Other than that it works wonderfully. Very sturdy, feels like HDPE so it should be safe and hold up in the dish washer.My old press is the Ikea one. That one is a bit easier to push through, but the dual hinge mechanism is a pain. This one is much more efficient overall, handling large or multiple cloves very simply. Little squirt-around, too. And the price can't be beat.
