I've previously read a couple of short stories by Jill Shalvis (in the two Men of Courage collections), but this was the first full-length novel. If they are all this good, I will definitely be reading a lot more! After being left at the altar for the third time, Breanne Mooreland departs for the secluded vacation lodge high in the Sierras ready for her (not) honeymoon and some serious alone time. She wasn't expecting the flight from San Francisco to turn into hell in the air (complete with lost luggage) or the massive blizzard which looks like it's going to trap her here without power for quite a while. She really wasn't expecting the quirky and mysterious staff that seem to appear and disappear at will and she definitely wasn't expecting to find sexy Cooper Scott in her shower.Burned-out and exhausted, Cooper has just walked away from his job as a San Francisco vice cop. All he wants is to spend a week skiing and getting his head right. He doesn't want to be stuck in a cold, dark, isolated house during the storm of the century. He especially doesn't want to deal with the sexy but annoying Breanne, who seems to think he should make up for the management's booking error by vacating the premises in the middle of said storm. And he absolutely doesn't want to think about police work of any kind. Sadly, once Breanne stumbles on a dead body in the basement, what Cooper wants and doesn't want no longer matter. This was a really fun read - the perfect blend of humor, romance and mystery. Breanne and Cooper are extremely likable and the glimpses we get of the mysterious staff kept the story from getting too isolated in the couple and their growing attraction. The murder mystery was light and overall the story was entertaining and very well told.
