We adopted a pitbull a few years ago who is terrified of having her nails clipped. They were to the point that we started calling them her bear claws. They were really long, and thick. Cutting them while she was asleep was impossible because she is always hyper aware of her nails and feet being touched. We finally caved and tried this scratch pad. Oh my goodness! I don't know why we waited so long!Teaching her to use it was easy. We set it up in front of her and told her to give paw (she will give her paw for short periods of time). The goal was to get her to touch the pad. When she did we gave her a small training treat. We eventually moved on to putting the treat in the sliding door and when she scratched the pad we immediately opened it. Within an hour (with a few breaks) we had her full on scratching it. Her nails are actually short! And shorter than we thought they could be! We can tell she already feels relief on her joints. We still have to struggle to clip her back nails but they weren't as bad as the front.This scratch pad is high quality, well built, and real wood.
