It's a new year and time for a new project. Perfect timingJust started reading this book and I'm eager to start.Glad I purchased the book. What a great book! I'm new to hand weaving and spending some time just learning about the world of warp and weft. I have 3 books so far and this one is really well written. Had I gotten this one first, it may have been the only book I needed to get going. This book contains the best photos for showing the step by step process of tapestry weaving. Easy to follow for any beginner you will find clear photos for each step of learning the way to set up and weave a tapestry. The author has many of her own weavings photographed in the book, but she has you refer to them throughout her teaching as advanced examples of some of the basics she is teaching. You also get a sense of her style and breath of her body of tapestry work. Once you have woven the first example you will be well on your way to being a "Tapestry Weaver"This is a very nice book. I purchased it because it received many good reviews. However as someone who is wanting to try tapestry for the first time I don't feel especially ready to strike off on my own. And am wondering why? For example actually getting your image accurately established and started. While I will practice the techniques presented I'm wanting to do picture type images not square and rectangular shapes. And after reading through the entire book I'm not sure I can make that happen. The author is a very talented weaver, her work is quite beautiful. There are 25 pages approximately 25% of the book devoted to a gallery of her work with minor explanation of the techniques used to create them. I think I was expecting more discussion and instruction re techniques, looms, warp, weft and finishing options. The weavers guild I belong to has a small group of ladies who meet and specialize in tapestry weaving, I'm hoping that they will fill in the gaps for me and soon I'll be comfortable creating my own works of art.Well done. This is simple to follow for a relatively new weaver and gives many ideas. It will be my new 'go to' book as I continue to learn! This book had great, clear instructions with very nice photos. It went step by step and built up to more advanced techniques. From basic weaving stitches to photos of finished pieces it was very helpful. I had been doing some weaving on a frame loom and needed help in removing a piece from the loom and finishing it. While I still need to practice I have a better understanding on how to finish and frame a piece.I was at the Knitting & Stitching Show in Harrogate November 2012 and paid a visit to the tapestry weaving stall, where I asked about getting a book about it, and they recommended this one as a good starter. After the introduction, the book is then divided into the following sections:Materials, which covers: Warp & weft, what they are Frame or Loom: From simple to really complex ones, and to start you don't need much Other weaving equipment: scissors, bobbins, tape measure, shed stick, paper, pencils, dowels, needles, etc etc. Mounting and Framing Equipment: blockboard, glue, sandpaper, hammer, nails, paints, apron, gloves etc etcBasic Techniques - covering: Making your own simple frame, winding warps, preparing weft yarns, Weaving the hem, knotting a soumak Weaving horizontal stripes and spots Pick and Pick, Hatching, Diagonal shapes and curves, vertical slits, shading Distorted weft, outling shapes Cutting the tapestry from the frame, other ways of finishing warp ends Samplers: Sun sampler, Peruvian birds, Cat & fishes, Simple landscape, the Cover design.Further Techniques covering: Warp & weft variations, Weaving from the side Curved and irregular edes CushionsMounting and Framing How to mount and frame your tapestryGallery Contains photos of some of the author's work to give you inspiration and a bit about them. It's not a hugely thick book, with just 96 pages, but it's packed full of simple instructions and lots of diagrams and photos to get you started, going step by step along the way. I'm getting my husband to make me a frame as a birthday present, the instructions are that clear.Overall an excellent beginner's book to get you started.I recently acquired a table loom and wanted some ideas for what I could do. Lots of photos and tips to get you going!A really helpful book for anyone wanting to Lear this skill. I have learned a lot and will continue to use it as a reference for patterns and ideasAs a new comer to tapestry weaving on a small frame loom, this told me everything I wanted to know but couldn't find out in one place on the Internet. Nicely illustrated and easy to follow detailed instructions. The sampler was particularly useful as it allowed me to try all the usual weaving techniques in one project. Highly recommended.Interesting and informative. Recommended
