A rather academic approach on the subject leave the reading in some sections somehow difficult for those not use to technicalities of the researcher, but a very well written book overall. The book clearly identifies a path on the future trend on mass collaboration and how this will affect us in many ways. How our personal live and businesses will effected by this is already on the making, what we can do is to better understand it. This book does that.I strongly suggest reading it for those interested in what the future will look like. The book pair off withVan Hippel has produced a thought-provoking book that is useful in many ways. Mainly, the idea of user-innovation and how it differs from the way we often think about product development and innovation by businesses is presented with great clarity. Highly recommended for anyone interested in product innovation, business development and new ways of thinking about them. The concept behind this book is exciting. The first few chapters were well worth the read. Then it felt like a diet book where it is making the same point again and again to prove there is something behind the theory. What this book is: A good description as to how the customer/innovator symbiotic relationship propels inovation. What this book isn't: I just didn't need to be as long as it is. The point could have been made in 2/3s of the length. The repetition made it a far more academic book than the other writing style. This book is one of those where it is worth reading the first third to half and then the final chapter. It is worth reading, but not every page.NeilAn important book because explores new and important ways the innovation is carry out, that implies a total trasnformation of companys developent product areas as we know. Fully agreed with the governance transformation that the innovation implies to the future. A must read book considering ther aren't enoguh good books related with what is happening now in the corporate world related with this phenomenon. This book is realy good to understand innovation and why is necessary to involve all people. As von Hippel pointed out in an article, the popularizer of "Open Innovation" focused on all the stakeholders in innovation except the most important: the users. The customer or user has been von Hippel's focus since he coined the terms "customer-active paradigm" of innovation in the 70s; and "Lead Users", "sticky information", and "user toolkits" in the following decades. His early research focused on high-tech B2B firms, but Democratizing provides examples from B2C and C2C as well.Recommended to anyone who wants to tap into the richest source of product innovation: the user.I'm rating this on the basis of subjects I like, I haven't got to this one yet. Each chapter says the same thing. If it weren’t free and mandated as a text book I’d be upset more. Dry and boring.I enjoyed this summary analysis of user involvement in innovation. It makes a lot of sense to me. The book is easy to read despite being oriented towards the academic community. Will recommend to a few of my colleagues as I can see lessons we can learn within our business.Used as background reading in MBA course. It is well worth a read. You must read itO livro é uma obra prima sobre Inovação no mundo globalizado! Recomendo à todos que gostam do tema e queiram ter uma visão mais ampla.Great book
