I loved this book because the plot wasn't just written about one married couple with children. Each chapter talked about couples within a family: grandparents, married siblings, neighbors, parents of childrens' friends. Each married couple experiences tests. As a community is bound, so is the family. So each of these stories is told singularly and then brought together to show the whole and how each person has an effect on the other. Each character is different and so like those we know. It's like being a voyeur and hearing the thoughts of an individual while trying to decide the direction/choice they need to make. More importantly, the author then offers a questions/answer format asking the reader to think about each character and what example did they play in our own lives. This is not a cheesy, soap-opera type story but almost a self-help book on how to keep a family and a marriage alive even through tragedy. Each marriage in this plot has a different tragedy to experience and a different outlook on how to handle the situation. There was even suspense to each story that I was truly surprised. I will read this many times over.
