Very good, sturdy, it works very well, easy to cleanI recently purchased this item with a I guess there is no ideal garlic press; while there is a cleaning feature, i.e. the red plastic which is supposed to push out the garlic that has been pressed, you still need to put the tip of a knife or something in there to dig out the remnants of garlic --- i dunno if this is a solvable problem or not because the nature of garlic is that it is sticky once you smash it in there.I bought the same press at a kitchen store years ago and it finally broke. I was happy with it and looked for the same. I read the reviews and now have to agree, the material used for the teeth is not as strong. One already broke. It is just a touch harder to align the teeth to clean the press. It's still easy to use and does the trick. I wonder how long this one will last. This is the best model of the Trudeau garlic presses, and it is an excellent garlic press. When I could not find this particular one, I purchased another Trudeau garlic press at my local cooking store that is similar to this one except that it contains a useless rubber or plastic slicer between the two sides, serving as an obstacle which prevents the pronged pad from entering the holes that the garlic is pressed through. That means the pronged pad is useless for pushing the garlic skin out of the holes, which is necessary for easily cleaning the garlic residue out of the holes. The pronged pad on the "slicer press" is useless anyway since it has shorter prongs (than this model) on its pad, such that they wouldn't go through the holes anyway - brilliant! This model is by far the simplest and best, and Trudeau should keep it. My local cooking store only carried the slicer model at the time I needed a new one (after years of daily use the hinge pin broke), and I hope they've since restocked this one since the slicer model forces the user to have to clean the holes with a brush, which is time consuming, unlike this model where you simply turn the two handles back to back, and run them under water. Presto, clean! The "improved" slicer press is now in my drawer of useless tools that I saved only as backups. Suffice it to say, this garlic press is a keeper! Thank you Amazon for offering it!!I cook a great deal from America's Test Kitchen, which recommends use of a garlic press vs mincing by hand.ATK recommended two presses, the Rikon Kuhn at some $35 (which I own), and this one, as their best buy (which I purchased for my girl). Though the Rikon is nicer overall, it gets just a bit more garlic out of each press vs the Trudeau. The Rikon is sleeker and a bit more ergonomic, which does provide you a warmer and a fuzzier feeling, but does not significantly contribute to your garlic production. The Trudeau is heavy, solid, and presses garlic just fine. The Rikon opens up in an unusual way that allows you to easily clean out the stringier garlic that is leftover in the press. In contrast, the Trudeau offers an integrated plastic piece with male prongs which poke out the garlic left in the wholes when the handles are rotated 180 degrees. Although the plastic piece shown no signs of falling off, the male prongs don't fit into the female wholes perfectly, requiring a bit of force to clean the press, and then pry them apart. I'm concerned that, over time, the plastic might loosen with repeated attempts to separate the tight fitting male prongs. Even if it does, you will still be able to clean out any remaining garlic by reaching in with your fingers etc...I purchased the Rikon based on the ATK recommendation, before I realized that they also backed this press as their best buy. In retrospect, though I am completely happy with the Rikon, I would not have spent $35 on the Rikon had I known of this as a suitable replacement.Works fine and cleans easily.I'm giving it NO STARS FOR LYING ABOUT THE MATERIALS.Bought it *specifically* for the claim of being made of stainless steel. Bought another garlic press to replace the one that broke unexpectedly, because the shipping time was with next-day delivery, but wanted to get one that wouldn't break on me. Finally, this one arrived, but it doesn't say "stainless steel" anywhere on it or on its packaging (which is a little etiquette attached by a string). And now I see a review that says the metal got all corroded in use.Thinking I should return it.Based on some positive reviews, we upgraded our aging Henckle garlic press that inexplicably bent enough to be rubbing on pressing. The Trudeau is heavier, thicker steel. The garlic compartment is large with rounded sides and reasonable sized holes (not too small, not too big). The press steel fits into the compartment easily while not allowing very much garlic to squeeze up the side. The hinge seems robust. The rubbery handle grips were comfortable, and for my only complaint, one of them slides off easier than I would prefer (have to push back the 1 cm it slides). There is ample room without protruding parts for a knife to skim off the attached pressed garlic, although much of the garlic can be propelled out with good force. My garlic supply at the moment is a bit older and drier. Clearing the garlic remnant is as easy as flipping the handles over to 'press' in the opposite direction where the built-in rubber clearing piece pushes the matted garlic off the bottom of the compartment for my knife tip to pop the whole mat out. Great value and functionality. Would buy again. Bon appetit!Do not buy. There is about 1mm clearance between the inner and outer part, and the casing is made in such a way that you cannot bottom it out. Half your clove will squeeze up the sides, a quarter will remain untouched and you'll be left with a quarter of a clove to cook with. It's a shame because it a real chunky hunk of metal. If it was well designed it'd have been a beast.this is so so so so easy to use and clean. i can get every bit of garlic out of the press when i use it, which makes me happy because im not wasting food. all the attachments (red garlic cleaner part, and both handles) come off for easy, sanitary cleaning. my parents have the black version that i was obsessed with while i use it at their house, so i was grateful to find this one on amazon. you cant go wrong for the price, its very high quality and makes pressing garlic so so so easy. plus i just pop it in the dish washer right after using (i dont rinse, who has time for that?!) and it always comes out clean.
