I was disappointed with this book. I know that "formula" romances are "boy mets girl, boy wins girl, and boy and girl live happily ever after" but in this case I was hoping the first "boy" that Janice met would not be the one she ended up with even though he owned her family home. When Janice, who was a doctor, was called to the bedside of a patient who was dying, Blake first "showed annoyance" before she left and then after she had gone he was so angry he put his fist through a wall. My initial reaction was, "Whoa, where did THAT come from?"When the two policeman, at different times, told Janice to let them know if she needed anything, I thought "oh, boy, they must be concerned for her because they know how volatile Blake's temper is" and they want her to know she has somewhere to turn. Also, I was waiting for her to meet another man...one who did not have such anger issues. Then Blake saw Janice with his brother, misunderstood the situation and beat his brother to the point that they had to take the brother to the hospital and I thought, "okay, NOW Janice will dump him" but instead she ends up overlooking that beating and staying with Blake. Are you kidding me???? This jerk should have been kicked to the curb early on in the relationship, like when he followed her to work. There's nothing romantic about that! That's borderline stalking and is one characteristic of an abuser. And certainly he should have been kicked to the curb after he gave his brother a beating. Obviously, as the title indicates, the author intends that Janice will somehow need to end up in her old family home by Christmas time and I was hoping the old man who sold the house to Blake would turn out to not have clear title to the property so that it would revert to Janice and she could live there with a man who did not have such anger issues. I'm not much of a believer of a man who throws a temper tantrum and hurts someone then apologizes and swears he'll never do it again. And he won't...not until the next time. Mercifully, the book ended before Blake could give Janice the kind of beating he gave his brother!
